El 21 de gener de 1977 es va publicar al Regne Unit, 'Animals', el desè àlbum de Pink Floyd, un àlbum conceptual en què Roger Waters, utilitzant el món animal com a metàfora de la debilitat humana, va llançar una sàtira sobre les condicions sociopolítiques de l'Anglaterra dels anys setanta. Basada lleugerament en la faula de George Orwell Animal farm, que centra el focus en el stalinisme, Waters converteix la seva història en una crítica al capitalisme. L'àlbum va ser nº2 al Regne Unit i nº3 a Estats Units.
