El 16 de febrer de 1982 es va publicar el doble àlbum 'The Concert in Central Park' del duet gravat el setembre de 1981. Paul i Art s'havien tornat a unir per celebrar un concert benèfic gratuït al Central Park de Nova York davant més de mig milió de persones. La recaptació econòmica va servir per al desenvolupament i manteniment dels espais verds deteriorats del centre de Manhattan. En total van interpretar 21 cançons, entre elles, clàssics com The sound of silence, Mrs. Robinson' i 'The boxer', així com temes de la carrera de Paul en solitari com 'Kodachrome', 'Late in the evening' i 'American tune'. El disc va ser núm. 6 al Billboard200 i va vendre només als Estats Units més de dos milions de còpies. Tot i l'èxit del concert i l'àlbum, les tensions personals van fer que el duo no es decidís a continuar amb la reunificació que no es tornaria a produir (i només per a una sèrie de concerts) fins a deu anys després.
